QUESTION OF ENLISTMENT. I MINISTERIAL STATEMENT. | [From our own Parliamentary Reporler.] WELLINGTON, July 21. In the House of Representatives to-! day Mr J. C. Thomson (Wallace) ask- j cd the Minister of Defence whether i he recently slated that men with large families were not encouraged to enlist, and if so did he think a man with seven children should be allow-! cd to go. He was informed by a letter from a person in his electorate that such a man was leaving with the next reinforcement. The Hon. .1. Allen said he had (liscouraged as far as possible without! definite prohibition the enlistment of these men. Cases, however, had* occurred. It was seen to that they I made provision for their children. I But in accordance with the recent I decision of Cabinet, no man. would : be now accepted if he had more I than three children, unless he was! accepted for some special service.
