MONTHLY MEETING. The Chrislehurch Presbytery met to-day in St. Paul's schoolroom, when there were present:—Rev. l)r Erwin (Moderator), and the Revs. J. \V. I lay ward, J. Paterson, T. McDonald", J. Mclntyre, a visitor from Dublin, referred to the destruction and loss which their Presbyterian brethren had suffered in the recent outbreak. From the published reports at least five or six churches and other property were situated in the area affected. One block which had been destroyed contained a church belonging to the United Free Church of Scotland. On the motion of the Rev. J. Palerson, it was decided to send expressions of sympathy to the Irish Presbytery and the United Free Church of Scotland, Dublin. CAMP CHAPLAINS. It was reported that no Presbyterian ministers had been appointed to attend the Territorial Casual Camp at Rangiora. The Moderator said that the Presbytery as a rule were in the dark as to whether the chaplains were attending these fixtures. The Rev. J. Paterson said that the camp was a small one, and two chaplains of other denominations were present. It was not desirable to fill the camps with clergymen, it would be better to arrange with the other Churches as to who should attend. After discussion it was resolved that in future chaplains who attend the camps should report to the Presbytery on the work done. CHURCH VISITATION. It was decided that the church selected for the ensuing month for visitation be St. Andrew's, the Rev. Hill (convener), Rev. A. Laishlcy, and Mr Sagcr to attend. MISCELLANEOUS. Mr John Steel was granted permission to transfer to the supervision | of the Auckland Presbytery during the further continuance of his studies. The Rev. Hayward submitted the' plans for a schoolroom in connection with the church at Akaroa. The' plans were approved. The Rev. J. Paterson moved the! following motion, which was sec-1 ontled by the Rev. J. J. Bates:— "That this Presbytery trusts the Gov- j eminent will take immediate action to close hotel bars at 6 p.m. for the period of the war, and for six ! months thereafter, and to prevent shouting, and directs this resolution to be forwarded to the Pre-' mier."
