GRAMOPHONE FUND.

A meeting was held at the Council i Chambers yesterday afternoon for the; purpose of raising funds to provide gramophones for our soldiers in various camps. The Mayor (Mr Holland) was voted to the chair, and Mrs Rolleston was appointed secretary, with Mr Holland as treasurer. Mrs Rolleston explained that the committee would be a branch of thej Wellington committee, which included i Mesdames Massey, Luke (Mayoress), and Corrigan. It was decided to hold a conceit on Sunday next, the 14th inst., at the Grand and Everybody's Theatre. Members of "The Strollers" and other leading artists have very kindly offered their services. A vote was unanimously carried thanking Lady Clifford for her generous gift, of a gramophone to the fund. A committee was formed, consisting of the Mayor (Mr 11. Holland), Dr Thacker, M.P., Colonel R. A. Chaffey, Messrs F. R. Bushcll, R. A. Home, 11. Hobbs, W. Olliver, W. Thompson, T. F. Hall, Mesdames Ceo. Rhodes, J. C. J'aimer, R. A. Chaffey, -L Rolleston, and Miss M. Hall. A vote of thanks was carried thanking the proprietors of Everybody's and the Grand Theatre for their very generous action in loaning the halls free.
