LYTTELTON AFFAIRS.
MEETING OF COUNCIL. The fortnightly meeting of the Lyttelton Borough Council was held last night, (here being present: The' IMavor (Mr W. Radcliffe), and Crs T. Hempstalk, J. B. Webb, B. Rhincl,' E. R. Isaacs, J. T. Norton, W. T. Foster, W. W. Toy, and C Johnston. WORKS COMMITTEE.' The Works Committee reported in the matter of council employees of military age that, while it would prefer to see all eligible men in the council's employ offering themselves for military service, it could not recommend the council to take any '; further action. i The report was adopted. SANITARY COMMITTEE. The Sanitary Committee submitted a by-law dealing with stables, pig-styes, and fowl-houses, provid-1 ing that no person shall use or erect ' any building for use as a stable, or j j be allowed to keep swine or poultry within the boundaries of the bor-1 ough, without first obtaining the j permission of the council to do so. j I The report was referred back to I the committee. CORRESPONDENCE. A letter was received from the Education Board, applying for the use of the whole of the Colonists' i Hall, with an option of using the j building for three years, for con tinuation and technical classes. It was hoped that the council could see its way to let the hoard have the use of the whole building for not more than £4O per annum. The board trusted that the council would contribute towards the cost of maintenance. The letter was referred to the ■Estates Committee for report. A letter was received from the Boy Scouts, asking for the use of the Diamond Harbour Recreation Ground for the coming football sea- j son. The request was granted. FINANCIAL STATEMENT. The financial statement showed | the District Fund Account in credit i £354 13/6, and the Temporary Loans; Account in debit to the extent of j i'l 1,580 0/1. Accounts amounting to £3820 5/6 were passed for pay- J merit. NEW BUSINESS. Cr Hempstalk spoke at some length on the state of Ticehursl Boad, and asked that a sunt be placed on the estimates to carry out. the necessary work. The matter was referred to the j Finance Committee for a report.
