ALLEGED INSTIGATION. UNION TO BE PROSECUTED. Press Association WELLINGTON, May 6. The Labour Department is taking action against the Petone Woollen Workers' Union for a breach of section ti of the Industrial Conciliation and Arbitration Amendment Act, 1908, for allegedly instigating certain workers to take part in an unlawful strike. The penalty claimed is £'2oo. [Section (> of the Industrial Conciliation and Arbitration Act, 1908, provides for the imposition of penalties on individuals, industrial associations, or trade unions who incite or aid an unlawful strike or lockout. The maximum penalty for an indivdual worker is £lO, while for a union, industrial association, employer, or any other" person other than a worker, the maximum is £2oo—the sum claimed in the present case. It is further provided that if a majority of the members of a union are parties to a strike the miion shall be deemed to have instigated the strike.
