ALLIED SUCCESSES. FURTHER INTENSE BOMBARDMENTS. PAP.IS, March 28. An official communique says:— "After an intense bombardment between the Somnie a rill the Avre, in the neighbourhood of Maucourt, the enemy attempted a coup-de-main against our front line trenches, but completely failed. "Our big guns dispersed marching troops in the direction of Mont Chatel, in the Argonne. and blew up an ammunition depot. "There has been an intense bombardment west of the Meuse, between Bethincourt, Mori Homme, and Cumicrcs, and also east of the Meuse. in the region of Yaux and Douaumont. ''We bombarded af long range enemy depots af lleudicourt, south of Vigneulles, demolishing a siring of trucks and selling lire to buildings." The High Commissioner reports: LONDON, March 27. Bel ween the Somnie and the Avre, in the neighbourhood of Maucourt, after an intense bombardment, the Germans tried a surprise attack on the French first line of trenches, but completely failed. In the Argonne there is continued artillery activity against various points of the enemy's, front, notably in the Clumpy Wood sector. West of the Meuse a fairly intense bombardment has been maintained on our Front at Bethincourt, Mort Homme, Cumieres, and east of the Meuse in the Vaux-Douaumont region. There have been several artillery "gusts" in the Woevre, but no infantry action.
