RED CROSS.
SALES DEPOT. The committee state that the past week has been a very successful one, due in a great measure to .Mrs David J>ozier and Mrs E. J. Austin, whose efforts on Friday night and Saturday morning resulted in an ad- : dition of over £6O to the Red Cross Funds. These ladies had gathered together from all parts of the Do- | minion a splendid collection of flowers, besides a great quantity of poultry, calces, pies, preserves, and home-made delicacies of every description, all of which soon found buyers amongst the hundreds of ladies who thronged the premises. Saturday morning is now quite a recognised institution at the depot. Gifts have lately been received from the following:—Mr Brass, Mrs J. Hawkes, Miss Cox, Mr J. McMeeken, Mrs Calvert, Master F. Co., box of butter. Gifts of anything (except second-hand clothing) will be gratefully received, at the depot (next G.P.0.); the money realised is; used solely for the benefit of our sick i and wounded soldiers. YALDHURST. The usual monthly meeting was held on August 5, when the branch was reorganised, the following officers being elected:—President, Mrs Hudson; secretary and treasurer, Mrs Wilkinson; committee, Mrs Cox, Misses Chisnall, Johnston, and Parish; auditors, Messrs McConnell and W. Johnston. It was decided to donate £35 out of the concert proceeds to the Red Cross, the remaining £lO 11/- to be spent as required for materials. The following articles were received: IS) pairs socks, three pairs bed socks, three pairs mittens, four pairs slippers, five balaclavas, three scarves, one dresisng gown, nine pyjamas, four vests, and a parcel of old linen. OXFORD. The ladies of the Oxford district have decided to meet every week to sew, meeting this week on Wednesday. On Thursday, August 19, the third Red Cross afternoon'tea will be given in the Coronation Hall by Mesdames Gorton, Hawkc, Rudd, and D. McGrath.
The Rugby Street Red Cross Unit meets every Monday evening, and a large amount of work is given out to members. Last week a big parcel of various kinds of garments and a large quantity of bandages were sent to Base Hospital No 2, at Alexandria.
