SUMNER-REDCLIFFS.

• From Our Own Corresvondmt The Sumner-Redcliffs section of the Citizens' Defence Corps held their usual weekly parade at Redcliffs yesterday, when there was an excellent muster. During the morning the men were put through a course of squad drill, under Sergeant J. S. Middleton and Corporal Box, and signal drill, extended order, under Drill-Sergeant W.. Smith. At the conclusion of the parade, Captain Wilson addressed the men, and urged the necessity of a keen interest being taken in the various drills. In order to extend the knowledge of the section, it was decided to go in for route-marching. PlatoonSergeant Laurenson thanked Captain Wilson for the time and trouble he had taken in connection with the Defence movement. To-night a miniature rifle match will be fired between A and B teams, the scores to count in the local competitions. On Tuesday week a return match against Sydenham will also be fired. Dr Porteous, the Indian mission-" ary from the Punjab, addressed a crowded meeting in the Town Hall yesterday afternoon, the chair being occupied by the Rev. F. Rule. The Rev. T. McDonald was also present. The doctor, who spoke on missionary work generally, gave an exceedingly interesting address, and at the conclusion was accorded a hearty vote of thanks.
