CANTERBURY CENTRE.
The committee of the Canterbury Rugby League met on Saturday evening, the following members being present: —Messrs A. E. Hooper (chairman), H. M. Williams, J. J. Stevens, F. Moore (Aldington), C. if. Poore, B. Buchanan, F. Ayling (Sydenham), 8~. J. Stirling, W. Mitchell (North Suburbs), A. Morris, J. Underwood, W. Moyle (Linwood), H. Boyns, H. Worsfold (Federal), and J. Mullaney (Hornby). The protest lodged by the Addington Club, disputing a score by Linwood, on August 7, formed the subject of an enquiry, and Messrs C. Manning (captain oi the Addington Club), E. Smith (Linwood, V. W. McGee (line official), and J. Auld (referee) gave evidence. Mr Manning stated that he had objected to a try being granted,-on the grounds that the touch judge had put up his flag for a breach, and had gone on the field and informed the referee. The latter, however, had awarded the try, and had taken no notice of the touch judge. Mr McGee supported this statement.
Mr J. Auld (referee) stated that he was aware of the touch judge drawing his attention to the alleged breach after the try had been awarded. He was well aware of the position, and would give a similar decision in any other instance.
The committee, after brief discussion, dismissed the appeal. < The Match Committee reported that the remaining fixtures had: been revised to allow of club matches being finished. Their action was approved, and the following final games set down for decision on Saturday next: — Show Grounds, Shield final, Addington plays'Sydenham; referee, Mr McGregor. , Flag Matches. —Federal v. Sydenham, Show Grounds (Mr Auld); Hornby v. Linwood, at Hornby (Mr Garrard; Linwood Park, Sydenham third v. Linwood (Mr Geary). ' [Contributed.] The protest by the Addington club was disallowed by the Centre on Saturday last. The Addington Club are to play a semi-final against Sydenham next Saturday at the Show Grounds. There is every likelihood of a willing go. Mr H. Garrard has accepted the position of" auditor to the Addington Club. Mr E. J. Foster, the late club captain of the Addington team, is in training at Palmerston North. Mr Joe Bennett, from Addington," is going into training to drop bombs on the spot. We will misa Joe in cricket, as also Bob Irvine, Tom Hardie, Tom Beanland, E; Hobbs, and W. Sullivan, who have all gone to do their bit for King and country. More 110110* to them. f
