SHIPPING NOTES.

■ The Vacuum Oil Company*s chaptered steamer Caldorgrovc is to leave Wellington, at noon to-day, and is due here to-morrow to discharge the local portion of her cargo of case oil from New York. The steamers Batsford and Norman Monarch hoth left New York on Monday for Auckland, Wellington, Lyttelton. and Dunedin. The vessels are due at Auckland about August .">, and Lyttelton about August 15. -■ ■ ■• ■ ' The Union Company's R.M.S. Maraina left San Frstncisco on Thursday last,. and is,due at Wellington on August 13 (one day late). The vessel is bringing ?>0 first class, CO second class, and 02 steerage passengers for New Zealand ports. . The English mail failed to connect with the vessel at 'Frisco. The coasting steamer Opouri, at present undergoing overhaul in the Lyttelton graying dock, will be floated out to-morrow, and will sail on Friday for Greymouth, where she will load timber for this port. The American schooner Salem, which visited Lyttelton about two, years ago under the command of Captain Jamieson, is at present bound from San Francisco to Melbourne, and left the American port on June 10. The Union Company's Waitemata, from San Francisco, via, Auckland and Wellington, -was to have left Wellington at noon today for Lyttelton, and is due to-morrow. The vessel will discharge a small quantity of cargo here, and will then load chaff for Sydney, sailing to-morrow or Friday. The Shaw, Savill liner Corinthic, which was to have arrived at Lyttelton to-day, has had her itinerary altered. The vessel proceeded from Timaru to Bluff, and is due here from Bluff on August 4. She sails on August 5 for Wellington, and sails finally for London on August 8. The Chilian barque Nelson, which was one of the. fine old vessels of the Shaw, Savill, and Albion Company's original, fleet, and which for many years traded between England and New Zealand ports, has been chartered to load a cargo of lumber at Puget Sound for Sydney. The steamer Navarino, of 5003 tons, left New York.on Saturday last under charter {o the Vacuum Oil Company with a full cargo of case oil for Auckland, Napier, Wellington, Lyttelton, Timaru, and Dunedin. The vessel is due at Auckland about August 28, and at Lyttelton about. September 14. Mr W. H. O'Neill, second mate of the auxiliary schooner Eunice, has left the vessel in order to proceed to England. Mr C. .13. Bell has succeeded Mr W. H. Young as second engineer of the Mapourika. Mr R.-.T. L. Bromley has joined the Mocraki as seventh engineer. Mr G. H. Norman and Mr T. H. Walsh, purser and assistant purser respectively of the Pateena, have transferred to the Monowai. Mr G. H. Amies, formerly of the Wahine, and latterly of the Maori, has joiued the local odlce staff of'the Union Company. Mr C. Rule has joined the Warrimoo as purser in place of Mr F. A. Williams, who has transferred to the Maori. The Union Company's Paloona arrived at Lyttelton from Wellington at 11.55 a.m. today, in charge of Captain A. T. Norton. The Union Company's Manuka, from Syd-i ney, has transhipments' ex the following vessels:—Orontes, Cooma, Berwick Law, Shiralla, Tango Maru, St. Albans, aud Atua. The Mokoia, which arrives to-morrow, has transhipments ex the Tongking. The Waitemata is due at Lyttelton tomorrow morning from Wellington, with a. cargo of chaff. Owing to the Monowai not arriving at Lyttelton to-day in the ferry service, the Hudda'rt-Parker steamer Victoria will be utilised as the ferry steamer to-night, sailing on the arrival of the 7.23 p.m. train from Christchurch. The Manuka, sailing on the arrival of the 10..'!0 p.m. train from Christchurch r will also take passengers for the north. . • Captain A. T. Norton, who brought the Mararoa from Sydney to Auckland, Is now in command of the Paloona, having relieved Captain Drcwette, who is to take command of the Monowai in the ferry service. Messrs J. Kettle and J. Dennison, second and fourth engineers of the Waitemata, have left that vessel, and the other engineers have been promoted a step in consequence. Mr R. F.rwin, late second officer of the Monowai, is to join the Willochra hi a similar capacity.
