TRAMWAYMEN'S SOCIAL.
AN ENJOYABLE GATHERING. To mark its appreciation of the efforts of the tramwaymen in the election of the Queen of the Harvest Festival, the Christchurch Tramways Board decided to entertain the men and their friends at some social gatherings. The first of these was held last evening, in the Alexandra Hall. An excellent programme opened with a topical limerick competition, which yielded much entertainment. Then a vocal and musical programme was given by Mrs C. Wood and Messrs W. Fenton, W. Nicol, Frank Thompson, W. J. Mason,' H. T. W. McLennan, C. "Wood, and C. Voss, and Dr H. T. J. Thacker, M.P. This was followed by dancing. The M.C. was Mr R. McFarlane, the music was provided by Wells's Band, the catering was in the hands of Mr A. Rattray, and the decorations were installed by A. J. White, Ltd. The arrangements for the function were carried out by a committee consisting of Messrs J. A. Flesher and S. A. Staples and Dr Thacker (members of the Tramways Board), and Messrs R. McFarlane, W. Dean, B. Stocks, 11. A. de C. Browne, J. Malmanehe, and W. J. Mason.
