' The first annual dinner of the Canterbury Printing Trades (Printers', Machinists', and Bookbinders' Union and Typographical Union) was held on Saturday night, there being an attendance of about 120 members. Mr C. Shaw presided, and the toast-list, included: "The Printing Trades Federation," ''The Typographical Union," "Printers', Machinists', and Bookbinders' Union," and "The Labour Movement." During the evening Mr E. Wilson (retiring president) was presented with a gold medallion, in appreciation of his past services. The following presented musical and elocutionary items: Messrs R. T. Cooper, P. Jones, 11. Edwards, W. Bell, F. Cart-wright.,, and Glubb.

At a meeting of the New Zealand Cricket Council on Saturday evening a letter was received from the North Taranaki Cricket Association, forwarding the folloAving resolution: —"That as the Daylight Saving Bill, which has been before the Parliament of New Zealand, and which may a gain bo introduced, would be greatly in the interests of cricket and other summer games, the North Taranaki Cricket Association requests the New Zealand Cricket Council to give its support to the measure." The council decided to write to Mr T. IC. Sidey, the. mover of the Bill, expressing its hearty approval of the scheme, and also to support in in every wav.
