THEOSOPHICAL LECTURE.

The life story <jf a soul from the bosom of the Father to its densest covering in the mineral kingdom and back again as far as the human family was told last night to a large audience by Miss Christie in the Alexandra Hall. A picture of the outbreathing of a universe based on the Ist chapter of St. John's CJospel, "In the beginning was the word," was a piece of very powerful word painting, and the three stages in the evolution of form and consciousness described in the well-known saying, "Ood sleeps in the stone, breathes in the plant, and lives in man, were described in detail. Much stress was laid upon the effect of human consciousness playing upon the embryo minds of our domestic pets, and thus individualising them, and upon our responsibility in this connection, we being to the animals what Uod is to us. The gradual evolution from the group soul and stage of instinct into that of a reasoning being was traced witli suitable illusIrations showing the growths of the human mind through all grades from savage to that of peasant in a civilised community to the man of commerce, merchant prince, learned professor, artist, poet and saint, ujitil the man pure, and controlled in body, emotions, desires, and thought was capable of wielding the finer forces of nature and passed but of normal human evolution into that of the super man, the subject of next Sunday's lecture.
