THE LATE MR ISAAC GIBBS

FUNERAL THIS MORNING. The funeral of the late Mr Isaac Gibbs, general manager for the colonies of the N.Z. Shipping Co., took place this morning. There was a large attendance of representatives of the various shipping companies and commercial houses, who assembled to pay their last respects to the deceased gentleman. After leaving the residence the cortege proceeded to St. Mary's Anglican Church, where a short service was conducted by the Yen. Archdeacon Grosser. The choir sang "Now the Labourer's Task is O'er" and "Peace, Perfect Peace," and the organist (Mr C. Turner) played the "Dead March" from " Saul.'' The procession then proceeded to the Papanui Cemetery, where the last rites were performed by the Yen. Archdeacon Grosser. Members of the N.Z. Shipping Co.'s office staff acted as pallbearers. j FEELING REFERENCE. At the morning service of the Merivale Church yesterday, the vicar, Ven. Archdeacon Gosset, referred to the great loss sustained by the parish and the city of Christchureh through the death of Mr Gibbs, who, both as a business man and a friend had held the respect and esteem of all who came into touch with him. He had been connected with the parish for very many years, and had frequently helped him (the. speaker) with advice and in other directions. Though stricken in his later years he Lad borne his ufferings with Christian fortitude. They were glad he was at rest, but they would miss his cheery, i kindly sympathy, and they all felt deeply for his sorrowing wife and children. At the conclusion of the first part of the service the '' Dead March'' from 11 Saul'' was played by the organist, Mr C. Turner.
