ST. JOHN AMBULANCE ASSOCIATION.

COMMITTEE MEETING. The general committee of the St. John Ambulance Association met last evening, when Mr A. E. G. Ehodes (the president) occupied the chair. There were also present—Messrs'"W. W. M'Kinney, 11. J. Hodtlinott, T. G. Riches, Drs Inglis, J. E. Thomas, and M. Louisson, M>iss M. Mills and Lieut.-Colonel F. B. Cresswell.

The Greymouth committee wrote asking whefher mixed classes might be held for first-aid instruction. The difficulty was to get sufficient men or women together to do the work. The secretary was instructed to reply that as long as the doctor had no objection, such classes could be held in sparsely populated districts.

The following motion, moved by Mr H. J. Hoddinott and seconded by Mr T. G. Riches, was carried unanimously:"That the records of services rendered to the association by Mesdames P. Pratt, _W. W.M'Kinney, and A. E. G. Rhodes, and Drs H. M'Clelland Inglis, J. Ei Thomas, and M. Louisson, Lieut.Golonels Cresswell and Walter Thomas be forwarded to St. John's Gate for favourable consideration." A letter was received from Mr A. W. Nicoll, Health Inspector, with. reference to the use of one of the society's stretch-ei-s at Lyttelton for an infectious case. He stated that the stretcher had been most thoroughly disinfected by three i processes. Steps were now being taken to have ,a stretcher in Lyttelton for use in infectious cases.

The following was passed in the form of a resolution:—"That if this centre offers to undertake the following, work in the Canterbury, Nelson, and" West Coast Military District, viz.: (a) The collection from the public of gifts of medical comforts, hospital clothing, and equipment, etc., and.the forwarding of the same to the necessary stations; (b) to arrange for £he receiving of Convalescent soldiers either in private houses or in convalescent stations, would the Defence Department accept the same?"

These services would be additional to and in conjunction with the offer made by the St. John Ambulance Brigade to provide trained persons in time of necessity.

Accounts amounting to £42 0/3 were passed for payment.
