KNOX CHURCH.

ANNUAL MEETING. j The annual meeting of the congregation of Knox Presbyterian Church was held last evening, the minister, Dr Erwin, presiding over a good attend-a-e.ee. The Kirk Session submitted the annual report, dealing at length with the various departments of the work of the church. The attendance at the services had been satisfactory. The number, of families connected with the congregation was steadily increasing, but the Church had suffered in working force by the removal of-some families from the district, amongst whom were some earnest and devoted workers. The number of members on'the roll was 398. The year had been marked by the actual beginnings in the forward move-ments-which had been discussed in the past. ; . , - /'. The Finance Committee reported that, . the financial position throughout the past year had been well maintained, and with all current liabilities met there was a credit balance of £1 19/7 to carry forward. Included in the balance-sheet were the receipts and payments relating to the properties at Berwick Street ar.d Wairarapa Terrace, in connection with which, and to mark the thirtieth anniversary of Dr E'rwin's pastorate, a special sum of £IOB 11/6 was raised last November, which more than paid off the then existing liabilities. The schools stand free of debt, excepting the mortgages of £4OO and £450 respectively, a»<| winch bear interest at the rate of 6per cent. During the past 12 months the calls had been somewhat heavier than usual, but these had been responded to with that liberal spirit which has always been a marked feature of. the Knox Church congregation. The various reports were adopted, and were the subject of interesting and appreciative remarks by various members of the congregation. Dr Erwin, in the course of his remarks, expressed his appreciation of the manner in which Mr Harden, the retiring Church officer, had carried out his duties during the past 24 years. Mr Marden was afterwards presented with an address and purse of sovereigns as a token of appreciation from the congregation. The routine of business was re^ ; lieved at intervals by musical items contributed by members cf the choir. At the close of the meeting refreshments were handed round.
