The following saloon passengers arrived by the , Warrimoo this morning:—Misses Main, Jones (2), Stevenson, Mesdames Duff, Coxhead (2), Brown and infant, Stringer, Messrs Duff, Coxhead (2), Edwards, Brown, Weir, Brown; and five steerage. The Kaikoura, Homeward bound, left Rio on the 4th inst. The Hurunui left Liverpool on May 3 for Auckland. Either to-night or early to-morrow the Union Company's steamer Waitemata-is due at Lyttelton from Newcastle. The Kamo left Greymou'th this morning for Wellington. The Karamu leaves the West Coast to-morrow for Wellington and Lyttelton. In the Union Company's Guide for May several now steamers which are in course of construction are incorporated in the company's tonnage. A now 15,000 tons passenger'steamer is being built, and will probably bo placed in the Vancouver service when, completed. Two cargo steamers of 10,000 tons and 12,000 tons gross respectively are also being constructed, and though no definite announcement has been made, it seems probable that these vessels will be put in the Canadian-Australian trade, which is quickly assuming greater proportions. The total passenger tonnage of the Union Company's fleet is now 143,(554, and that of the cargo steamers 202,512 tons. The Union Company advises that on May 25 the turbine steamer Maori will be placed in the dock at Lyttelton for cleaning and painting. She sails the same evening for Wellington. There is no truth in the rumours that the Maori is to be taken off the ferry run during the winter months. At the end of September she proceeds to Port Chalmers to undergo annual survey and overhaul, and will be relieved by the Mararoa until the Maori is ready to resume running. During her sojourn at Lyttelton the New Zealand Shipping Company's steamer Remucra loaded the following cargo for London: — 00,985 carcases frozen meat, 785 casks runners, 57 carcases veal, 500 boxes kidneys, 45 boxes sweetbreads, 103 packages sundries, 3653 bales wool, 5 bales rabbitskins, 277 boxes honey, 29 cases preserved meats, 15 sacks grass seed, 4369 crates cheese, 340 casks oleo, 12 casks tallow, 216 casks pelts, and 19 casks casings. The Remuera leaves Wellington for London next Thursday.
