FELL OFF THE TRAM.
YOUNG IRISHMAN'S TUMBLE.
Hugh M'Guire, a young Irishman, who has been only five months in New Zealand, had a violent tumble about ojie o'clock this afternoon.
He stepped on to the footboard of a tram which was approaching Cathedral Square from the South Belt. Unfortunately M'Guire got on on the wrong side. He found that in order to retain his foothold he had to grab hold of the side bar, which was down. When it came to paying his fare, M'Guire put one hand in his pocket to produce the coin which the Tramway Board exacts for his services. At the same moment the wind took to playing with his hat, and M'Guire let go the side bar to save his headcovering.
He succeeded in grabbing his hat, but could not preserve his equilibrium. The result was that M 'Guire landed on his head on the road.
The young Irishman got a bad knock, and was assisted, in a semi-conscious condition, into the shop of Mr G. Wallace, watchmaker. He recovered after a quarter of an hour, and explained, iri a delightful liquid brogue, that things were not as bad as they might have been. He also renounced riding on footboards for the future.
