RICCARTON TRAINING NOTES. Ideal climatic conditions prevailed for training operations this morning. The plough track, which was most in use, provided capital going. R. T. Mason's pair, Cherubini (G. Clark) and Canute (lightweight) were the first to commence proceedings, their task being a gallop over a mile. The latter, who was given a big break, was joined by his stable mate between the six and seven-furlong mark, after which the pair raced together throughout, running the full journey in lmin 45sec, the last seven furlongs in lmin 30sec, a good gallop. Flower of the West and Judith were restricted to a round at three-quarter pace on the plough. Tannhauser (Collier) and Thrax (Lorie) galloped six ftirlongs, the former showing to most advantage, in lmin 18sec. Emperador, Historiette, and Rencontre were companions in a gallop over six furlongs, which they left behind in lmin 16sec. The first-named did not appear to be fully extended, while s the two latter were ridden out v with, the whip. Wharfinger defeated Don Francisco over six furlongs, run in lmin 20sec. Martial and Martinious sprinted three furlongs down the straight, finishing together. He could run farther at top speed than any horse I ever saw or heard of. Carbine was much speedier than Abercorn, and could always chop him for pace at the end of a moderately run race. He twice beat Abercorn over three miles in slow time, when the pace was only on Over the last mile. Both were wonderful horses, and for certain the best we have ev«jr known.
