NEW BRIGHTON.

BOROUGH COUNCIL MEETING. The fortnightly meeting of the New Brighton Borough Council; held last evening, was attended by the Mayor (Mr C. H. Winny), and Crs J. Ainger, A. Chidgey, G. W. Stanilahd, F. Kibblewhite, O. Bergh, A. W. Owles, C. Israelson, J.' Ashley, and C. Withell. A letter from Mr E. L. Beasley, respecting his section in Lonsdale Street, which was 14 inches short of the required depth necessary for subdivision, was referred to the By-laws Committee. Mr S. C. Thompson's letter regarding a section on Jubilee Avenue and a subdivision for building purposes of sections in Bowhill Road was referred to the By-laws Committee. Messrs Cassidy and Co.'s tender for chaff and oats was referred to the Works Committee.

The By-laws Committee recommended the council not to grant a special order to subdivide a section at the corner of Keppell Street and Hawke Street. The Town Clerk's report stated that the sub-committee, after considering the various tenders recommended the acceptance of that of the Glenmore Brick Company, at 8/- per yard. The Report was adopted.

Cr Owles referred to the recent visit of local bodies to Timaru, at which he had represented New Brighton. The visitors were most cordially received, and he. asked that the council should express its thanks for the hospitality and kindness shown him as the New Brighton representative. The motion was carried.
