FATALITY ON A SHIP. - - Press Association. WELLINGTON, March 31. * A middle-aged man named Thomas Caldwell, who lives, <a±» Petone, was killed in the the steamer Matai this morning.—The vessel was lying at Jervois Quay discharging superphosphates from a northern port. . A sling containing eight bags broke, and the bags fell back into the hold, a distance of 35 or 40 feet. # •>. . Some struck Caldwell, killing him instantly.
A man named E. Bradley, who wae> working alongside Caldwell, escaped with slight injuries to his shoulder. .
