A number of Texan Rangers from Austin- crossed the Mexican boundary and disinterred the body of Clements Vergara, a Texan rancher who was lured to Mexico by Mexican Federal soldiers and murdered. - The Rangers brought the body to American soil.

There were gunshot wounds On his head and neck. The body was mutilated and burned, and one of his hands indicated that he was tortured ! before death. It is believed that the ' Texas Rangers restored the body to the grave again, but the commandant of the Rangers denies that his men participated.
