LONDON WOOL SALES.

By Cable.—Press Association. —Copyright. LONDON,"March 4. At the wool sales, 8723 bales, including 5644" New Zealand, were offered. Thiere was an excellent selection of crossbreds, and a crowded attendance, a record number of buyers being present from the United States. Keenest competition prevailed for all classes, tho United States and Yorkshire bidding excitedly for crossbreds, and Yorkshire and the Continent for merinos.

The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., have received the following cablegram from London: "London wool sales —There was a good attendance at the opening of the sales to-day, competition by Home, Continental, and American buyers being active, and prices as compared with close of preceding series ruled about 10 per cent higher for crossbred and 5 per cent to 7$ per cent for merino. Opening catalogues were fairly representative.''

The Bank of New Zealand has received the following cablegram from its London office: —The sales have opened with strong competition and large attendance of buyers. There is an active demand by all branches of the trade. Total net quantity New Zealand avail? able, 60,000 bales. The market is strong for the following wools:—Coarse crossbreds, prices are higher £d to Id per lb; medium crossbreds, prices aro higher Id to per lb; fine crossbreds, prices are higher Id "to lsd per lb. The Christchurch Stock Exchange received the following telegram yesterday from the Reefton Attorney of the Consolidated Goldfields of New Zealand, Ltd.:— "Progress crushed 3550 tons yielding 761 ounces, value £3082, cyanided 2520 tons yielding 315 ounces value £913; estimated value sulphurets £438, costs per ton mining 13/2, milling 2/10, general expenses and bullion charges i/ 10.

"Blackwater crushed 4373 tons, yielding 1716 ounces, value £6959, cyanided 2314 tons yielding 228 ounces value £791, estimated value sulphurets £564, coats per ton mining 14/3, mining 3/9, general expenses and bullion charges 2/10.
