HACKETT GAINS A PLACE IN THE FINAL DEFEAT OF RANDRUP Randrup on Saturday night in the first semi-final of the Auckland amateur billiards championship, YV. E. Hackee will be one of the contestants in the final. The game attracted a large number of spectators. Both players started confidently, Hackett having slightly the better of the play’ and recording a nicely compiled break of 47. Randrup took the lead soon after by scoring more frequently and reached the hundred mark with a lead of over 30. He gained applause by making some welljudged all-round shots. Hackett compiled? a run of 42, breaking down through a mis-cue. This gave him a slight lead. His opponent, however, regained the lead by adding a break of 38. From a double-baulk left by his opponent Randrup scored a cushion cannon and ran up a 31 break, making the score 201 to 154 in his favour. Hackett evened the score by making a break of 32, but Randrup continued to score freely and retaliated with a run of 37. The score at this stage was 269 to 231 in Kandrup’s favour. Randrup increased his lead considerably soon after by making breaks of 21 and 29, he then having an advantage of 90 points. Hackett gained ground by making a red ball break of 41 and got within 20 points of his opponent’s score. % A further effort of 43 gained him the lead, but only by a few points. A break of 23 once more gave Randrup the lead, who held an advantage of lu points just after the 400 mark was passed. A break of 26 by Hackett brought forth one of 35 bv his onnonent. Hackett at his next visit made a break of 30 and won a great game by running to points with an unfinished break of 29. The final score was: TV. E. Hackeit, 500: breaks of 47, 42, 26, 32, 28, 41, 43. 26, 30 and 29 unfinished. H. Randrup, 452: breaks of 3S, 31, 37, 21, 29, 23 and 35. The second semi-final will be played this evening between M. ID. White and H. H. Massey. The winner will play W. E. Hackett in the final.
