“TRUE TO IDEALS”

W.Y.M.I. REUNION HELD SUCCESSFUL MEETING I There was a largo attendance of past and present members of the Wesley Young Alen’s Institute in the Wesley Hall, Pitt Street, on Saturday evening for the annual reunion. The Rev. W. Walker presided. The Rev. Tom Olds, in proposing the toast of “W.Y.M.1.,” said that W.Y.M.I. stood for service, each man doing his best for the common cause. Alany names, now well known in the public life of the Dominion, had been linked with the W.Y.M.1.; and the institute, while taking an active part in sport, had remained true to the ideals of its founders. It was a vital force in the life of the church and this presaged a future full of promise. The general secretary, in reply, gave a brief resume of the institute’s activi- ! ties and said that although no chamI pionships hack been won by members ! during the past year, he felt that they had emerged with their reputation for clean sport enhanced, and that their policy of giving every man a game and placing loyalty to their Bible class ideals before sports supremacy, had redounded to the benefit of the insti- | tute. j The Rev. Dr. Laws, in proposing the j toast of “Church and School.” said ! that the one regret connected with his j ministry at Pitt. Street was that it was 1 during the war years, when so many of the W.Y.M.I. had answered their country’s call, and he had been unable to know them personally. Air. K. Rosser replied. Air. H. G. Fountain, replying to the toast of “Kindred Associations,” proposed by Air. H. L. Chapman, congratulated Mr. Chapman on gaining football representative honours and said he felt sure Mr. Chapman would follow worthily in the footsteps of other athletes produced by W.Y.M.I. The toast of “Absent Comrades’ was proposed by Mr. E. H. Halstead and replied to by Air. N. R. Mitchell. During the evening the George Eyre Memorial Cup for the best all-round cricketer and sportsman during the past season was presented to Air. W. McGregor. Musical items were given by Messrs. Daglisli, ventriloquist, and A. McElwain.
