MANUREWA BRANCH OF MOTHERS’ UNION ENTERTAINED AT TEA
The Manurewa branch of the Mothers’ Union was entertained at “Manurewa House” by the Countess of Orford on Thursday afternoon. The Rev. Walter Averill and Airs. .Averill were also present. Lady Orford received her guests in the drawing-room, which was arranged with arum lilies and bowls of gailycoloured anemones*. After the general introductions by the president, Airs. Frank Dobson, Mr. Averill gave an address on the responsibilities of parents toward their children. He said the highest ideals of Christianity were embodied in the Mothers’ Union. During the afternoon an enjoyable programme was contributed to by Aliss Seth Smith and Air. Averill, song; Lady Anne "Walpole, pianoforte solo (Mozart), and later, attired in a picturesque costume, she danced an Old World minuet with her cousin, Aliss Poppy Oakes. Later Miss Oakes performed a gnome dance very gracefully. Among those present were: Mrs. Oakes. Miss Poppy Oakes, the Rev. and Airs. Walter Averill, the Rev. and Airs. Frank Dobson, and Mesdames Jenkins, Wayby, Willett, Grey, Phillips, Wood, Lupton, H. R. Lupton, Gladden Harris, Mc.Farlane, de Carteret, Delves, Foulkes, Whitton, Campbell. and Nelson.
