AMERICA’S CUP
BROADCAST OF FIRST RACE YACHT CONTEST ON AIR The first race for the America’s Cup, which will be sailed on Saturday between Sir Thomas Liptou’s challenger, Shamrock V. and the American defender, Enterprise, will be broadcast from United States stations and relayed by New Zealand stations. The Radio Broadcasting Company of New Zealand Limited, has received advice from its consultant in America that a description of the first race of the series, which is to take place between noon and 5 p.m. on Saturday (American eastern daylight saving time), will be broadcast. This time corresponds with tbe New Zealand time of 3.30 a.m. and 8.30 a.m. on Sunday. All New- Zealand stations will be on the air for that period and will carry out a rt N ;ades.st, atmospheric conditions permitting. Indicating the elaborate arrangements which have been made by the broach ast authorities in U.S.A. to describe che race, it is learned that there will be observers in destroyers, dirigibles, and airplar.es, from all all of which craft the announcers’ descriptions will be trai. smitted to the shore stations, to be relayed round the whole of the network of American stations controlled by the Columbia and National Broadcasting Company. Shortwave broadcasts will be made from Boundbrook, Pittsburg and Schenectady.
