DARGAVILLE NOTES

After a period of more than 39 years in the service of the New Zealand Railway’s, Mr. Charles E. Bernard, on Saturday retired «>n superannuation. Mr. Bernard joined the service on April 1. 1891, at Auckland, and has served in numerous places throughout the North Island. * * » A resolution of regret at the death of Mr. F. J. Dargaville, and of condolence with his relatives, was passed at the meeting of the Dargaville Chamber of Commerce. Mr. Dargaville was a foundation member of the chamber and was also a past president. * * * At least five contestants from this district were included in the prij;e list of The Sun’s popularity’ contest. Mr. W. T. Alain was the most successful of these, gaining 3.531,450 votes. Other winners were:—Miss P. Alanderson, of Tangabwahine, Miss H. Heath, Air. D. Bremner and Air. G. L. Haines. * * * Mr. W. R. Taylor, who is leaving Dargaville. was the recipient of a fountain pen from officers and members of the Northern Oak Lodge of Druids. Bro. P. Walden, district president, made reference to the sterling worth of Air. Tay’lor to the lodge and town during bis residence here
