YOUNG NOT COMING

HALF-BACKS TO BE GOT FROM ENGLAND POOLE EASES SITUATION (SUN Special Representative — Copyright) NAPIER, Today. Mr. James Baxter, manager of the British team, has received from Delhi. India, tlie following cable: “Thousand regrets leave refused. Writing.— Young.” The British team accordingly will have to search in other directions to solve its halfback difficulty. As was expected, A. T. Young, who is an officer in the Tank Corps, cannot be spared from India at present. On receipt of his cable Mr. Baxter promptly dispatched a cable to England asking for an additional half to be sent. He named two players, probably McArthur, of the Waterloo Club, Liverpool, and W. C. Powell, of London, a Welsh international. Whichever of these is available will be sent, though it will be impossible now for him to arrive in time for matches in New Zealand. If Powell, the famous Welsh international, comes, he will bring with him a reputation as a fearless. rugged scrum half, capable of taking unlimited punishment and getting his backs going from awkward positions. The immediate position concerning the halfback, however, is much improved by Poole’s display against Hawke’s Bay. Poole showed bis best form of the tour, using his clever reverse pass with good judgment, while emerging triumphant from a duel with Maurice Brownlie. If he maintains this form he may get a chance in the third test. The British team left Napier today for Morere, where it will stay overnight, thus breaking the long motor journey to Gisborne. »
