BURNED TO DEATH
TRAPPED IN ONE-ROOMED HUT LABOURER’S DEATH Press Association PALMERSTON N., Sunday. A fatal fire occurred at Levin just after midnight on Saturday, when Mr. George Alfred Widdows, aged 47-, was trapped in a one-roomed hut with only one door and two small windows. When the firemen were able to penetrate through the flames and fumes Widdows’s body was found near the door. Widdows, who was not married, was a returned soldier. He was a builder’s labourer and had been in Levin for about 30 years.
