GRAY’S FINE LEAD
The final day’s racing at Trentham on Saturday saw Hector Gray at his best and as a result of his three good wins, he is now four up on A. E. Ellis in the jockeys championship. The latter rode only one winner at Trentham. whereas Gray punched four home on the three days. But he was nearly not getting a ride in the last raefe on Saturday, for he had to wait several minutes before his mount, Hunting Call, could be found. The gelding had got away from his box and it was sometime before he was caught, and Gray legged up. The combination scored a very easy win, so “All’s well that ends well.” Grav will be riding at Gisborne next Thursday and Saturday, and at Awapuni on the last day of the month. Ellis, too. will h->ve riding engagements to fullfil on three days racing in the South Island, before the end of the racing season, which falls on July 31. But with a lead of four up his sleeve Hector Gray is right on the box seat.
