THREE MINES CLOSED
CRISIS ON COALFIELD IN AUSTRALIA THREE THOUSAND IDLE SYDNEY, Tuesday. Advices from Broken Hill state that owing to the rejection by the miners of a 172 per cent, cut in wages three of the chief mines have been closed and 3,000 men are idle. Additional trouble has been created by the refusal of the employees in the largest shops to accept a 48-hour week. All the employees are on strike.
