Y.W.C.A. HOSTEL HONOURS MISS KIMURA ENJOYABLE EVENING On Saturday evening a most enjoyable gathering took place at the Y.W.C.A. hostel, when the matron and girls gavo a farewell banquet to Miss Yuki Kimura., Members of the advisory board, the committee, the staff and girls of the hostel attended. There were cheery fires in the lounge and dining-room and bowls of Iceland poppies and sweet-peas were arranged round the room and on the tables, while large clusters of cherry blossom decorated the walls of the dining-room. The chairwoman of the hostel committee, Mrs. J. C. Lickinson, assisted by Miss Helen Laing, the house captain, received the guests. Miss Kimura, the guest of honour, was wearing a kixnona relieved with grey and a cherry sash. Between the speeches songs that had been composed by Miss Stocker, the hotel secretary, and the girls were sung. After the toast of the King, proposed by Miss Laing, had been honoured, Miss L. Andrews proposed the toast of Miss Kimura. The Japanese visitor said how much she valued the friendship shown her in New Zealand. She explained how a delightfully informal friendship had sprung up between the Chines© Christian students and herself when they, not being able to understand the enmity between tho two countries, had raised money and invited one Japanese student, whom Miss Kimura represented, to stay with them for a week. The toast of th# visitors was pro posed by Miss Greta Faulbaun and replied to by Mr. James Fletcher. Following this, the toast proposed of Miss Makeig, who replied, welcoming tho guests and wishing Miss Begg, the general secretary, who is going to attend the Pan-Pacific conference in Honolulu, a, happy holidav. Songs were sung by Miss Stocker and Miss who, on behalf of the staff and the girls, presented Miss Begg with a travelling rug. A most successful evening was brought to a close with dancing.
