BOXING AT TAIHAPE
AMATEURS’ TOURNAMENT From Our Own Correspondent TAIEIAPE, Friday. A successful amateur boxing tournament under the auspices of the Tuihape Boxing Association was held in the Town Hall, Taihape, last evening. Visiting boxers were present from Wanganui, Palmerston North, and Raetihi, and some keenly contested bouts were witnessed. Results were as follow: Fly-weight.—Hatch (Wanganui), Bst 41b, defeated G. Brougham (Wanganui). 7st 31b.
Feather-w r eight.—B. Rush (Raetihi), 9st, defeated W. Bayliss (Taihape), 9st 71b.
Light-weight.—L. Mercer (Taihape), 9st 71b, defeated Young (Taihape), 9st 21b; M. Candy (Palmerston North), 9st 71b, defeated G. James (Wanganui), 9st 91b.
Welter-weight.—A. Candy (Palmerston North), lost, defeated L. Riley (Taihape), lOst 71b; R. Gabolinscy (Taihape), list, defeated C. Neckler (Wanganui), list; C. Eagle (Taihape), list, drew with C. Ford (Palmerston North), lOst 101 b.
Special Welter-weight Bout.—J. McMahon (Taihape), lOst 51b, defeated J. Plank (Raetihi), lOst 61b.
Middle-weight.—J. Thurston (Taihape), list 31b, defeated D. Blake (Ma ngaweka), list. Blake was knocked out. J. Hitchcock (Taihape). lOst 121 b, defeated J. Berryman (Palmerston North), list 61b; W. Thurston (Taihape), list, defeated E. Dillon (Taihape), 12st 21b.
