LOST HIS SPEED
MAUNGA’S ONLY CHANCE “The farther they went the farther Maunga got behind,” commented a Southern sportsman after the recent Wanganui Steeplechase. And that, too, fittingly describes Maunga’s efforts since his arival at Ellerslie for the Great Northerns. A couple of seasons ago the Mountain Knight gelding had a fair amount of speed, but age is taking its toll and it seems he is now bereft of all pace. Only on the assurance that it will be a “falling” race can Maunga be recommended. He is quite at home over the gruelling three and three-quarter miles.
