ATTEMPTED SUICIDE
MARRIED WOMAN CHARGED INCIDENT NEAR RAILWAY Press Association CHRISTCHURCH, Today. The story that a married woman attempted to commit suicide by throwing herself under a train at Waltham was told in the Police Court this morning. According to a witness, if the woman had not tripped over a wire and fallen in a faint eight feet from the engine she would certainly have been killed. Muriel Martha Gertrude Thomas, aged 34, was charged with attempting to commit suicide, and further with being found helplessly drunk. She pleaded not guilty to the first charge and guilty to the second. The magistrate convicted accused for drunkenness and dismissed the other charge, saying there was doubt.
