GOODS SLASHED
DRAPERY STOCK CUT TO RIBBONS EDEN TERRACE OUTRAGE Goods to the value off £ll, belonging to Mr. B. Spitz, draper, Eden Terrace, were slashed to pieces by some unknown person last evening. Mr. Spitz was first informed of the act when a little girl ran in and told him that some of his goods on view outside were cut to ribbons. When stock was taken of the damage it was found that three men’s overcoats, two pairs of trousers, eight lengths of towelling, two pairs of pyjamas, two pairs of dungarees, two boys’ cardigans, and a man’s woollen pullover bad been slashed. Repairs are out of the question, most of the articles being cut in two or three places. The goods were hung in a corridor leading to a showroom at the rear of the shop. The stock was put outside the shop when it was opened in the morning and everything was in order at 7.30 p.m. It is thought that the slashing took place between 8 and 8.30 o’clock in the evening. The windows of the shop were well lighted, and the miscreant responsible took a great risk, as there is always a big crowd present in Eden Terrace on Friday evening. It is not thought that it is the work of boys as most of the articles were hanging above the reach of the average child.
