MANY MAY MARRIAGES BIRTHS AND DEATHS DECREASE Tit© greater popularity of marriages by the registrar in Auckland is shown in the returns for May. This month there were J 5 marriages solemnised by the registrar as against 45 for the same month of last year. The total number, too, showed an increase, being 179, as against 161. The registrar reports fewer births and deaths than last year, there being _:'s Auckland children born in May, as again 244 in 1929, and 143 deaths recorded, compared with 184. The totals for the five months of •930 show increases in the number of marriages, and decreases in both births and deaths. There have been 1.150 new Aucklanders to date, compared with 1,279. and 668 deaths us a gainst 672. Of the 957 marriages this year, 231 were performed by the registrar, figures for the corresponding period of 1929 being SSI and 200, respectively.
