GOLF SEMI-FINAL
JONES AND WETHERED WILL MEET IN FINAL AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIP Reed. 11.40 a.m. LONDON, Friday. In the amateur golf championship semi-final, Bobby Jones (America) beat Voight (America), 1 up. Wethered (England) beat Lelcester-Hartlev (England), 2 and 1.
Bobby Jones only won his way into the final at St. Andrew’s after a (arilling sruggle against his fellowAmerican. Neither ever led by more than the odd hole.
They were all-square at the turn, and again even at the 17th.
The crowd lined the distance from the tee to the green at. the deciding 18th hole.
Voight’s second was short, while Jones’s was only five feet from the flag. Jones laid his approach putt dead. Voight was again short, and had to hole a longish putt to halve and save the match.
Despite the tremendous crowd, there was breathless silence. Voight putted and just lipped the hole. Both players embraced and were almost carried off by protecting policemen.
Jones will meet Wethered in the final today.
