Unbeaten Teams Meet

GRAMMAR VERSUS PONSONBY

Good Rugby Programme

If Xo. 1 ground is at all heavy tomorrow the heavy Grammar pack will find conditions very much to its liking. The white forwards combine well and their footwork is of the variety that produces points. The rearguard, although not brilliant, adapts itself to the Grammar style of play. All round it is a much better and much keener side than last season.

Ponsonby, however, is not a siue that, can be dismissed in a few words. Last week’s performance against Manukau once again demonstrated that Ponsonby is never beaten until the final whistle blows. Tomorrow the Ponies will be strengthened by the inclusion ol' It. McWilliams, who has recently returned to Auckland, ancl who should make a big difference to the forward division. The result of the game will depend largely upon ground conditions.

On Xo. 2 ground at 1.30 p.m. College Rifles will meet Grafton and on present form should secure a win. arid on the same ground at 3 o’clock Technical College Old Boys, playing Marist, should retain its unbeaten record. The Training College-City game on Xo. 3 ground at 3 p.m., should be a fairly even go, with the chances slightly in favour of Training College. At the Show Grounds Manukau will meet University and here also are the materials for a good game. On recent form Manukau should win. Following are the teams: Senior A Grade City.—Blakey, Linden. BEFORE the Grammar Old Boys-Ponsonby game is coucluded tomorrow afternoon Rugby patrons at Eden Park will no doubt have seen some good football, or. at leas-, a elose and very interesting game. Last season Ponsonby won the senior competition, but not until it had twice been beaten by Grammar. This season both Ponsonby and Grammar have won every game. Both clubs are fielding- strong teams tomorrow and the result should be an even and very keenly contested game.

JUNIOR NOTES

Superior combination t» f "Varsity A ensured it a decisive victory over Y.M.C.A. on Saturday. The students have developed a fine back division In which a number of last s< players figure. Jackson is again playing soundly at fullback, while Bourke in the backs, and Farrel and Tatters - Held in the forwards, have been showing up prominently in recent games.

One of the strongest teams in the competition this season, judging l»y its run of successes, is College Rifles, which has greatly improved last season’s XV. The team possesses a hard-working pack of forwards in Clark Gould and Brough who have been outstanding for their tight and loose work in the matches this month, while the backs possess both speed and combination. The fast threequarter, Webber, has struck good form, and is showing plenty of dash in his scoring efforts. Gifford is also playing attractive football.

Grammar colts are developing one of the brightest, teams in the grade, the fifteen comprising the majority of the XV. which was runners-up for the championship in 1929. The back division is particularly strong. Frankham is playing Splendidly behind the scrum,' while Tapper and Biss are also valuable units in the rearguard. Among the forwards Pollock and Robinson have been displaying good form in scrum and loose work.
