HONITON’S PREPARATION NEW TRACKS NEARLY READY Special to THE SUN TE AROHA, Today. A probable addition to the locallytrained horses is a four-year-old filly by Valkyrian, purchased this week from her Matamata breeder by a Te Aroha sportsman. Her dam is a Nastor mare brought north from Taranaki, and is owned by Messrs. Montague Bros. of Matamata. Trainer G. A. Reid took Marble King and Glenstar to Ellerslie earlier than he would have done if the galloping tracks here had been open. Hitherto Glenstar lias not acted well* on wet tracks, while Marble King is quite at home in heavy going. The latter will be benefited by every working gallop he is given at Ellerslie. Mr. A. Monds, oY Mangaiti, owner of Marble King, lias named the halfsister, by Musketoon—Miss Amaris, Lady Minsk. She is a very nice type of a thoroughbred, and is much fancied by many who have seen her. Local racing men speak highly of the young

stock by Musketoon, and much interest will be evinced in them when their time comes for racing. St. Warrigal will be seen over country at the Ellerslie meeting. This big St. Amans’ gelding is a line jumper, but in the meantime it is questionable whether he will be suited to long distances. Bahama, White Ringlet and Taurimu did not relish the state of the track at Taumarunui, but will have an opportunity of making amends at the Waipa meeting next month. Judging by the appearance of Sir Russell, he will be ready for work at any time. The local plough gallop will be available to trainers as soon as the fencing is completed, and then there will bo a general return to training operations. Mr. Alex. Swney’s Honiton, now at Ellerslie, is little the worse for the wire accident she sustained recently. She has recently been worked on her owner’s property at Waihou, and will therefore be improved by her work on the Ellerslie tracks. Taumai is such a genuine performer that he may race well at the meeting, despite the fact that his preparation was interrupted by an accident at Paeroa last March.
