OTAHUHU BOROUGH COUNCIL

It was decided at the Otaliuhu Borough Council last evening to support a proposal of the Papatoetoe Town Board, to make application for the Auckland Electric-Power Board's district to be divided into wards. An application from the district engineer of the Xew Zealand Railways for permission to obtain a supply of water from an abandoned reservoir and well in Sturges Park was referred to the Works Committee. When a letter from the Xew Zealand Grand Lodge of the International Order of Good Templars was read, drawing the council’s attention to the grave and growing evil of allowing drinking in dance halls and cabaretin various parts of the Dominion, the Mayor said that although he attended a number of public functions in Otnhuhu. he had never seen intoxicating liquor in evidence. T. 11. Currie arid Canon H. Mason, ex-residents of Otahuhu. and at his request councillors stood in silence for one minute.
