TE AROHA BOROUGH COUNCIL
The Te Aroha Borough Council lin t on Wednesday evening, the .Mayor, Mr R. Coulter, presiding over a full attendance. The Department of Health reported on the analysis of water taken from the power station 'stream from which it is to take* a supply for a new reservoir. The water, by analysis said the report, is of good quality* and quite suitable for public purposes. The stream, however, should be fenced, on each side to prevent any contamination by r stock. The South Auckland Dairy Association advised that 400 National Dairy Association delegates would assemble at Hamilton in June, and during their tour would visit Te Aroha. The cooperation of the council was invited. It was resolved to assist the committee in its arrangements and to welcome the visitors to Te Aroha. The estimates for the year ending on March 31, 1931, which were approved, showed estimated receipts £20,126, expenditure £23,447, the difference of £3,321 to be met by a general rate of Is 7d in the £l, which is one farthing less than last year. A letter from the Grand Lodge of Good Templars was read suggesting that licences be refused to halls where liquor was in evidence at dances. After a discussion it was decided that it be a condition in the issue of licences that owners of halls shall not knowingly permit liquor to be drunk in the halls.
