LIQUOR REGULATIONS

SUGGESTED ALTERATIONS N.Z. ALLIANCE MEETS Press Association WELLINGTON, Today. The New Zealand Alliance, at a conference here, advocated the consolidation of existing licensing legislation into separate Acts, one regulatory and the other governing the referendum, that it be made an offence for any person, other than a % parent, to purchase or supply liquor outside the home for a person under 21. The meeting considered that all preparations containing alcohol should bear a declaration indicating the percentage of liquor content; that advertisements should not be allowed to refer to alcohol as a “tonic” or “stimulant,” or as medicinal and health-giving. The Rev. W. J. Comrie was elected president; Mr. F. Feist, treasurer, and Mr. J. M. Murray, secretary. The Alliance also passed the following resolution:—“That we again call upon the Government to secure full enforcement of the existing law in regard to licensed hotels, especially in connection with after-hours trading, and urge the need for affording the police a more adequate means of dealing with breaches.”
