ONEHUNGA CHARITY
BENEVOLENT SOCIETY MEETS In the absence of the Mayor of Onehunga, Air. John Rowe presided at the sixty-seventh annual meeting of the Onehunga Ladies’ Benevolent Society, held last evening. In the treasurer’s report, presented by Aliss M. Robb, the principal causes of poverty were attributed unemployment, intermittent work, sickness ancl improvidence. In all genuine cases coming under the notice of the society, help had invariably been given, and the committee had been enabled to brighten and cheer the homes of those in need. Special appreciation was recorded of the services of Mesdames A. G. Houldsworth, T. J. AVatliew and S. Kennedy in investigating and visiting all doubtful cases. Airs. T. J. Neill, president of the Onehunga branch of the Hospital Auxiliary, was also thanked for her helpful information regarding poor patients on their discharge from the hospital. Appreciative reference was also made of the generosity of Mr. and Airs. Robert Buchanan in distributing some 40 joints of lamb and beef at Christmas. Thanks for assistance are also accorded to Alesdames J. McArthur. D. D. Scott, H. Alurdoch and C. McLeod. Alisses Fleming, AVing and Frost Alessrs. AAL J. Jordan, M.P., John Rowe, Harold Robb. James Robb and Colin AlcLeod. The secretary, Airs. A. Ar. Parker, announced that tlie president. Airs. S, Logan, had been compelled to relinquish that office owing to ill health and Airs. D. D.
