SOCCER CONTROL

NORTHCOTE FORFEITS MATCH CHATHAM CUP KNOCKOUTS j At the Control Board meeting of i tho Auckland Football Association last evening, the chairman, Air. A. Alenzies. presiding, the senior division committee reported that a protest had been received from Newmarket regarding the playing of an unregistered player by Northcote in the match last Saturday. It was decided to award the match to Newmarket. The decision of the Control Board to play the second Chatham Cup fixture between Tramways and Y.M.C.A. on Blandjord Park next AVednesday night met with opposition from the Tramways Club. The delegate of the club said that a protest was to be forwarded to the New Zealand Council regarding the playing of the Chatham , Cup competition matches at night-time. The South Auckland Association wrote regretting its inability to comply with the suggestion that a South Auckland representative team should visit Auckland on June 3. The committee decided to endeavour to arrange an Auckland - Navy match on that date. The relegation and promotion scheme was again discussed, and in order to prevent a similar controversy to that of last season, it was resolved to appoint a sub-Committee to go into the scheme and submit a report at next week’s meeting. The transfer of J. Grimes from the Corinthians to the Celtic Club was granted. REFEREES’ ASSOCIATION At the weekly meeting of the Referees.’ Association, the usual routine business was dealt with, and at the conclusion Air. R. M. Be&wick gave the weekly lecture, the usual discussion following. The principal matter to come before the judicial committee was the ordering off the field of Tinkler (Tramways) at Onehunga on Saturday, for allegedly disputing the referee's decision in the match against Corinthians. In order to secure a fuller report from the referee, and the attendance of the player and the Tramways Club delegate, the matter was adjourned until Thursday. ‘

CHATHAM CUP TIE

THISTLE V. MANUREWA KNOCKOUT MATCH TONIGHT .The first elimination game for the Chatham Cup will be played by floodlight at Biandford Park this evening, when Thistle and Manurewa have been drawn to meet in the. first round. Alanurewa was the> winner of the Dacre Cup and senior B championship last season and knocked out several senior A clubs in the Falcon Cup contests. The lively game played by the suburban side is well suited to knockout games and Thistle’s more studied and scientific methods may be upset in what promises to be a ding-dong go between evenly matched teams this evening. The teams arc;

Manurewa. —Parks, Woods, Ross, Brown, Corbett. W. Clark, Palmer, Williamson, R. Clark, Davies, H. Donaldson. Thistle. —Gerrard. Johnson. Hibbert. Dick. Wright, Forster. Cummings, Wylie, McLeav, Hislop, Wright. Popular prices will admit to the stand and all parts of the ground.
