CYCLING BREAKAWAY
N.Z.A.A.A. COUNCIL MEETS LOYALISTS “BACKING THE RIGHT HORSE” Press Association WELLINGTON”, Today. Three members of the Council of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association attended a meeting of 29 members of the Port Nicholson Amateur Road Cycling Club last evening. It was the section of the club which remained loyal to the association when the stormy meeting took place recently.
The position of the club was discussed and the council members said that it was backing the right horse. The suggestion that the other section of the club, through its affiliation with the New Zealand* Union of Cyclists, had in any way become part of the international organisation was criticised strongly by Mr. 11. Austad’, chairman of the council. The Northern Union itself, said Mr. Austad, was only affiliated as a club.
The meeting pledged itself to remain loval to the association. Members decided to retain their old name, although steps have been decided upon to meet anv complications that may arise. Last evening’s meeting numbered 29 members. though only IS were present recently to vote against the breakaway, motion, which was carried by 26 votes to IS.
