CAR DRIVER FINED
ASLEEP IN MOTOR WOMAN COMPANION , From Our Own Correspondent HAMILTON, Today. In the early hours of- this morning two constables discovered Edward Fitzwilliam, a young service-car driver, of Rotorua, asleep in his car, with a young woman. At the Magistrate’s Court today, when Fitzwilliam was charged with being intoxicated while in charge of a car, Senior-Sergeant Sweeney said the defendant was sent to Hamilton yesterday by his company to take a service-car to Rotorua. Apparently during the day Fitzwilliam did some joy-riding and was seen entering the Commerce Hotel, where he was staying, accompanied by a young woman. Mr. P. H. Watts, for defendant, pointed out that his client had been a service-car driver for seven years and nothing was known against him. It was probable that accused, after driving a long time yesterday, was tired and fell asleep. Mr. Wyvern Wilson, S.M., said a serious feature of the case was that service-car drivers had the lives of others iu their hands. He would take into account counsel’s remarks. Defendant pleaded guilty and was fined £lO, and his licence cancelled for six months.
