CANADIAN GOVERNMENT’S APPOINTMENT EXTENSION OF WORK An assistant trade commissioner in Auckland has been appointed by the Canadian Government. The assistant to the commissioner, Mr. C. M. Croft, will be Mr. H. L. E. Priestman. Mr. Priestman left Vancouver by the Aorangi, which will reach Auckland on December 29. He is a graduate of Queen’s University, Kingston, Ontario. Before he joined the Canadian Trade Commissioner Service, he had more than 16 years’ banking experience in Canada, the United States and the West In dies. The appointment to the New Zealand post has been brought about by the growth of the work of the Canadian Commissioner’s Office. It reveals the extension of Canada's trade overseas. The trade commissioner service for Canada was begun 37 years ago with tiie appointment of commercial agents in the West Indies. In 1907 the full-time officers were called trade commissioners. In the service at present are more than 50 t officers, apart from the Ottawa administrative department and the clerical staffs overseas. There are 32 Canadian Trade Commissioners’ offices throughout the world. Five are in Great Britain and three in the United* States.
