PAPATOETOE TOWN BOARD

Tho clerk of the Papatoetoe Town Board reported at last evening’s meeting of the board that the Health Department levy had been increased from £32 10s to £62 10s.

It was decided to ask the department to consider reducing the amount to £ 50.

On the recommendation of the Papatoetoo Welfare League that the polling hours for the board elections be extended, it was decided, on the proposal of Mr. Nettlingham, to apply for an Order-in-Council for permission to extend the hours of the next election till 7 p.m., to give an indication of the advisability of making the alteration of hours permanent. A further recommendation that the polling booth in tho city be closed was rejected. In reply to a letter from the Auckland Returned Soldiers’ Association, it was agreed to open a subscription list for the roll of honour on the war memorial.

Permission was granted the Papatoetoe Amateur Athletic and Cycling Club to us© th© recreation ground on January 18, 1930, for a sports meeting, and to charge Is entrance to each person.

The water engineers, Messrs. Jones and Adams, reported that the work of reticulating the district with the water supply was nearing completion, the last pipe had now been laid, and the testing of y the mains was nearing completion.

It was decided to install temporary services in streets formed since the water scheme was approved. Seven tenders were received for the supply of 500 water meters. These were referred to the engineers for a report.
